Once a family enters into the world of Pediatric Oncology, they begin to learn a new language.  Some horrific hybrid between medical jargon and communal living.  The hospital becomes home; the doctors, surgeons, nurses, child life and social workers meld together with the other families sharing the hallways.  Quick and formidable bonds are made, and lives are forever changed.

The Oncologists who treat the dreaded disease of Childhood Cancer are among the most selfless people I have ever known.  Their job is constantly moving and evolving.  They are counselor to the parent, friend to the sibling, data to the clinical study, diagnostician to the child's staff of specialists.  Most importantly, as my daughter put it, "they are 'hereos' because they are trying to save my life".
